Working with People to Increase Productivity |
||
As published in MetalForming Magazine 12/05Letter to the EditorBrad Kuvin's Editorial in the September 2005 issue of MetalForming ("Nurture Employee Passion to Harvest the Seeds of Innovation") struck a chord. I believe that (employees will be more creative and try new ideas) when there is an environment/culture of trust... It takes a visionary who believes in people to create an extraordinary environment where trust exists between management and employees. The possibilities of such an environment are (endless). Can you imagine how invigorating it is to collaborate with fellow workers, including management? A company owner once said to me (regarding employee-management collaboration), "We don't believe in such nonsense." I can (understand) how someone believes in a culture built on trust but doesn't quite know how to go about building it. (But) there are people (like myself) who can help companies build a culture and where everyone can and wants to be responsible. With a diminishing workforce, starting in 2010 when Baby Boomers begin to retire, it is more important than ever to retain good employees. The only way to do that is to achieve an environment where people want to work. Who wants to work where there is no trust?
